Cuneiform Inscriptions in the Collection of the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem The Old Babylonian Inscriptions in the Collection of the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem This volume offers new cuneiform sources on the political, religious, juridical, and economic history of Southern Babylonia in the 19th and early 18th centuries B.C.E. Among these texts is a 600-line long document (no1) recording in unusual detail the daily routine followed in the temples of the city of Larsa and thus sheds light on the religious practices of the ancient Babylonians. Using this document as its point of departure, the first part of the book examines those practices - the service of the gods and the performance of the clergy. This document is especially impotant for the history of ancient religion. By Joan Goodnick Westenholz and Aege Westenholz Hardcover 192 pages with34 black and white illustrations. English text. Cuneiform Inscriptions in the Collection of the Bible Lands Museum: The Emar Tablets The Emar Tablets This volume looks at the late Bronze Age city of Emar. A multi ethnic population of Hittites, Assyrians, Egyptians and north-west Semitic speaking natives inhabited this port of call situated in the middle Euphrates on the frontier of the Hittite province of Syria, facing Babylonia to the south-east and Assyria to the north-east. It flourished during the last days of this hegemonic power system which was broken by the inroads of the Aramaeans, the Israelites, the Sea People, and the rise of the Phoenician city states in the 12th century BC. The tablets published here are in a veriety of languages and cover the full range of types of documents found from rituals and cultic inventories to legal documents and payment lists. Each text type is discussed and parallels to previously published texts are given. Every document is provided with an introduction placing it in its context, a transliteration, translation and philological and textual notes. By Joan Goodnick Westenholz Hard cover:210 pages. English Text. ISBN 978-9056930233 |
