Gallery 5 - ANATOLIAN RITUAL STANDARD

Early Bronze Age III

(BLMJ 3022)

Bronze, Inlaid with Electrum
Central Anatolia

This image of a bull formed a finial of a ritual standard. Standards similar to this one were excavated in the "royal" tombs of northern central Anatolia, probably burial places of semi-nomadic chieftains. Such standards were the most impressive items in a rich assortment of personal and ritual objects which accompanied the individual burial in the chamber-tombs.
