The Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem presents The Classical Court featuring highlights from the Private Collections of museum founders, Batya and Elie Borowski. This exhibition brings forth choice examples of Classical Art that have been selected to illustrate the strong influence of Greek culture on the Mediterranean world. This exhibit marks the first time that some of these artifacts are on display.
Classical Art portrays a concept of style and content consisting of natural, simple and pure lines delineating the true anatomy and beauty of the human body.
Originating in Greece in the 5th century BCE, Classical Art spread throughout the Mediterranean world influencing many neighboring cultures and giving rise to their own particular style of art. In this exhibition you see some beautiful examples of classical as well as pre-classical art from the 7th century BCE through the 2nd century CE from Rome, Etruria and Magna Grecia (Greater Greece) including Apulia.
The mission of the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem is to inspire and teach the roots of civilization and the history of the Bible through its priceless collection of Ancient Near Eastern art and archeology. Our special exhibitions delve into a variety of topics whose importance resonates with the world today through the lens of ancient history.
It is our hope that this exhibition will encourage the visitors in their quest for knowledge of history and culture.
