Myth, Music, and Heritage
Opening Concert
Sunday | July 26 | 11:00

Throughout the history of human civilization, mythology has been a timeless source of artistic inspiration.
It reflects universal human experiences, archetypes, and enduring narratives, offering profound insights into life, nature, and the human condition. From the Renaissance onward, mythological themes became central to the visual and performing arts, inspiring generations of painters, poets, and composers.

The event begins with a guided tour through the museum galleries, where remarkable Greek and Roman pottery, sculptures, and wall paintings bring the myths of gods and heroes vividly to life.

Following the tour, the opening concert of the Jerusalem Lyric Opera Festival will take place at the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem.
The program features works by Handel, Vivaldi, Telemann, and Monteverdi, inspired by the rich world of Greek mythology—from Telemann’s Orpheus to Handel’s Semele.
Performed by outstanding opera soloists from Israel and abroad, accompanied by the Belcanto Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Sofia Mezar, the concert celebrates the enduring dialogue between ancient myth and timeless music.

Fear and Faith: Women’s Voices of World War II
Heroines of Music and Spirit

Tuesday | July 28 | 15:00

As part of the Jerusalem Lyric Opera Festival, the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem invites you on an inspiring journey celebrating remarkable women—from the ancient world to the twentieth century.

The event begins with a unique guided tour, “Listen to the Women at the Window,” exploring the role and status of women in the ancient Near East through biblical heroines and rare archaeological discoveries.
From the galleries, we continue to the auditorium for a moving opera program dedicated to women composers whose voices endured despite war and persecution.

Created through the research of soprano Maria Yelich and musicologist Yulia Broido, the program brings to life works by Ilse Weber, Julia Weisberg, Elsa Barraine, Henriëtte Bosmans, and Rosy Wertheim.
Several of these compositions will receive their world premiere, performed directly from manuscripts that survived the horrors of war, serving as a living memorial to women who continued to create even in humanity’s darkest hours.
