Program conducted in Hebrew
The concept of love is usually associated with butterflies in the stomach and happiness in the eyes, but love has many faces. Love relationships, couplehood, and marriage covenants have played important roles throughout the ages.
In a special museum tour, we’ll examine the changing meanings of love and couplehood in the cultures of biblical lands. We’ll examine marriage relationships through legal documents, ask who loved the Mesopotamian goddess of love, observe depictions of partnership on bowls and paintings, and examine an ancient Greek jar depicting a famous wedding.
During the tour, we’ll enter the Roman wall painting exhibition—not regularly open to the public, and at the end, we’ll sip a sparkling glass of cava to toast love.
Tour duration: About an hour
